As Veterans Day approaches, it’s an opportune time to join hands in support of those who have selflessly served our country.

As Veterans Day approaches, it’s an opportune time to join hands in support of those who have selflessly served our country. America’s VetDogs®, a remarkable 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, stands at the forefront of aiding and honoring disabled veterans and first responders from various eras and fields of service.

Since its inception in 2003 as an initiative of the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, America’s VetDogs® has grown to offer a diverse range of services to support veterans and first responders who have sacrificed for our nation's safety and freedom.

America’s VetDogs® provides a spectrum of services including guide dogs for individuals with visual impairments, hearing dogs for those experiencing late-onset deafness, service dogs for physical disabilities, facility dogs in rehabilitation processes at military and VA hospitals, and PTSD service dogs to provide both emotional and physical support.

The organization’s impact extends far and wide. With a profound commitment to serving the community, America’s VetDogs® has achieved several remarkable milestones:

  • Certified by the International Guide Dog Federation and Assistance Dogs International.

  • Placed over 400 assistance dogs with disabled veterans, including various specialized therapy and combat stress control dogs.

  • Recognized by the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance as an accredited charity.

The impact of VetDogs is immeasurable, but it comes at a considerable cost. It takes over $50,000 to breed, raise, train, and place just one assistance dog. What's truly remarkable is that there's never a charge to the veteran receiving these life-changing companions. The entire operation relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service and fraternal clubs.

A striking fact about America's VetDogs is that approximately 80 percent of the funds they raise go directly toward program services. They receive no regular government funding, which makes their reliance on donations all the more critical. This means that every dollar contributed has a direct impact on the lives of veterans and first responders in need.

In the spirit of Veterans Day, an opportunity arises to actively contribute to this noble cause. The Friends of America’s VetDogs have organized a fundraiser on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, at the Coram Fire Department, located at 303 Middle Country Road, Coram.
